New Orleans Fishing In April

New Orleans Fishing In April

New Orleans fishing in April is a time of anticipation and excitement for anglers across south Louisiana.

As the warm weather takes over with the flurry of wildlife across the bayou and marshes, anglers from all over set out for that catch of a lifetime.

WIth the cold fronts in the rear view mirror, inland, saltwater fishing in Lafitte, Louisiana is officially under way.

Our work was cut out for us in early April due a handful of late cold fronts hitting the New Orleans area.  High winds and not so clear water is not an inland, saltwater anglers’s best friend.  But, with persistence, patience and knowledge of the area, we pulled it off.

While vising New Orleans from Nebraska, Justin was eager to get in on some Redfish action down in Lafitte, Louisiana.  We slammed our limits of Redfish, even though wind conditions remained an issue throughout the day.

Mike Kelly and his crew made the trip down to Lafitte to make it a weekend of fishing.

The winds were much more favorable with a little chill before sunrise. But it quickly warmed up to mild temps once the sun came up. The conditions were ideal for landing some Redfish.  Our first day out, we reached our limits of by 2:00 p.m. Our second day out was a repeat, limiting out on Redfish as well.

Mike’s Redfish Limits

I‘ve had the pleasure of fishing with Mike before, so he’s no stranger when it comes to fishing in New Orleans.  While visiting New Orleans for the French Quarter Festival, Mike made the short drive down to Lafitte to get in some saltwater fishing.  In no time we reached our Redfish limits.  Since the Redfish were still biting, we caught and released for the rest of the afternoon.

Jason & Dustin’s Redfish Limits

Jason and Dustin were eager to reel in some feisty Redfish today. The wind conditions were challenging, with a cold front in the forecsat. We were definitely wearing our jackets before sunrise.  Once the sun came up, it quickly warmed up.  Even though the winds were less than cooperative, we headed back to the dock with our Redfish limits in tow along with seven Speckled Trout.

Nice Catch!

While vising his daughter here in college, dad and daughter team got in on some fishing down in Lafitte, LA.

The Speckled Trout were biting one after another today.  As soon as one was unhooked, the next  one was on the line.  Rachel landed a nice Redfish as well. We caught and released well over 250 Speckled Trout and arrived back at the dock with a cooler of 60 Speckled Trout.

Ted’s Nice Redfish

Ted and Jennifer, who has been fishing with me for years, were in town for Jazzfest and couldn’t pass up an opportunity to come down to Lafitte, LA and reel in some Resfish.

Today was a chilly day day but it in no way hindered our fishing.  We caught our limits of Redfish in the Bay Round area and caught and released another limit before heading back to the dock for the day.

Landing Redfish On A Fly Rod

Great Work!

Kurt and his family, from Pennsylvania, fished with me on this breezy and chilly day today.

Even though, it there was a chill in the air before safe-light, it quickly warmed up with clear and sunny skies.  However, the wind didn’t quite die down but it didn’t stop the Redfish from biting.  On the very first cast, we hooked a Redfish.  Kurt, an avid fly fisherman, tried his luck with his fly rod that he brought along. I enjoyed seeing Kurt land his feisty Redfish on a fly rod. We headed back to the dock with our limits in tow after catching and releasing a handful more.

Roland and Kristie were visiting New Orleans from South Carolina with their two daughters, Regan and Kylee. As a family of avid anglers themselves, the girls were ready for two days of landing some nice Redfish.

We set out for an afternoon of fishing on our first day. I was struck by these youngsters fishing skills. They sure could give the boys a run for their money! With rain on the horizon on our second day out, we didn’t leave dock until 10 a.m.  We managed to dodge some of the showers popping up here and there, but we couldn’t avoid getting a little wet in the process.  We were back at the dock by 4:00 p.m. with 14 Redfish and 2 Trout in our cooler.

I had an awesome time fishing with you today. I look forward to seeing you guys again soon.  Have a safe trip back home.

MARCH, 2016
With the run of great weather over the last week, friends Scott and Todd didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to get in on some southern spring fishing.  Rain was in the forecast in the next couple of days, so it made for the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the mild temperatures, sunny skies and barely there NNE winds.

We left the dock at safe-light and headed out for some site casting in the Bay Round Area. The Redfish in the area were very eager to bite, making it a blast reeling in these agile guys. In no time, we landed our limit of Redfish. With our limit in tow, we headed out for some catch and release. We released a half dozen more Redfish to fight another day. We arrived back at the dock by 3 p.m. with our limits.

I want to thank you guys for fishing with me today.  I had a great time.  I look forward to fishing with you again soon.

Bart, Sam and Max, from Nashville, TN, came to land some Redfish down in Lafitte, LA during their spring break. During their trip to New Orleans, Bart and his two sons, Max and Sam came down to Lafitte, LA to reel in some nice Redfish.

Today was a great day to be out on the water. Mild temps and light wind provided the perfect opportunity for the kids to get in on some Redfish action. A handful of Redfish refused to bite and two broke off, but there were plenty that were willing to bite. We arrived at the dock by 2 p.m. with our limits of Redfish.

Than you guys, for making a trip down to Lafitte, LA. I had a great time and I look forward to seeing you at the dock again soon!
